In the chapter 3, M. Myriel had to go around places for pastoral visits. He went to Senez, and people would laugh at him for ridding donkeys. So I'm guessing he likes ridding donkeys.

In this chapter he was busy over a great work on Duties, which was never completed, unfortunately and the duties of all are the great duties and there are four of f these, One can easily picture to one's self these two women both of whom were over sixty years o age.
